Once intimidated by the sewing machine, Brighton designer Hilary Emmons hand-started her career with a skirt and halter top put together with neither pattern nor machine during a semester abroad in Germany.  Returning to the States with a suitcase full of fabric and a newfound confidence in her handiwork, she conquered the machine and discovered a passion.  A self-taught seamstress and designer, she now drafts her own patterns to express her unique vision.

Sewing for herself and friends soon launched Hilary into the marketplace, where she created Monster Stockings for the 3WA Crafts Fair in the fall of 2003.  Hilary found herself selling the Stockings as fast as she could make them.

While Monster Stockings remain a staple of the Crafty Robot store, Hilary's line now includes another passion.  Reclaiming, restoring and re-inventing cast-offs from thrift stores and garage sales, Hilary constructs one-of-a-kind handbags and accessories.  By combining the recycling of materials with fashion, Hilary infuses social and environmental responsibility with a cutting-edge flair, re-interpreting vintage design details to create unique contemporary products.
